Candidates for Crazyhouse World Championship 2021!

Apologies everyone, will get things moving this weekend. Schedule has effectively been delayed one more week. Have received content from candidates, organisers and other contributors during this week in preparation for launch of the next stage.

Candidates draw by 22nd August, with first round to be completed by 29th August. Will also be getting back on live stream with a few guests to introduce the candidates shortly!
In addition to rules already posted for the Crazyhouse World Championship 2021, these rules/conditions will also apply specifically to the Candidates Stage:

1) Randomised Draw
- In prior years a draw was based on rankings, but given the round robin format, this year the draw will be randomised.
- Transparent method will be names drawn from a hat on live stream this weekend.

2) Order of Play
- The schedule will be such that one round should progress each week. Therefore the expectation will be that on average, one match is played per week by each player.
- Each match should have a previously agreed date/time posted in advanced within this forum to make the match official.
- To allow for some flexibility which facilitates completion of the stage, matches may be played in advance of the schedule as long as both players agree.
- Understanding that life sometimes has priorities, a player is allowed to fall behind the schedule to some extent, but not by more than 3 rounds. By 21st November, each player will be expected to have had opportunity to catch up if behind and all matches should be completed.
- In the event that a player offers no fair reasoning for delays, ceases communication and makes insufficient efforts to complete all their matches by 21st November, the player will be disqualified without receiving a prize and their results will be excluded from the candidates stage.

3) Counting of Points
- Each match between two players consists of 10 games of 3+2 crazyhouse, where 5-5 is an acceptable outcome
- Winning 1 game is worth 1 point, while losing is worth 0 points. Draw is worth a 0.5 point to each player.
- Given there are 13 candidates, there will be 13 rounds where each player will face 12 opponents and 1 bye.
- Therefore, each player has equal opportunity to play for a potential maximum score of 120 points against their 12 opponents.
- The winner of the candidates and ranked prizes will be determined on the sum of points, not the match results.

4) Play-offs and tiebreaks
- Where any of the positions are tied, there will be a play-off.
- This could apply to a contest for the top position in the candidates, or any other lower positions, since there is different prize money to be determined.
- Where there are only two players in a play-off, the format will be 10 games of 3+2 crazyhouse, where 5-5 is played further 2 games at a time until a decisive result is reached.
- Where there are three or more players in a play-off, the format will be a "mini" round robin, with rules being exactly the same and consistent with the candidates stage, where each match will be 10 games of 3+2 crazyhouse, but 5-5 is an acceptable result and the total sum of points will determine the winner, as opposed to match results. The same play-off rules will continue to repeat in the event of any further ties until decisive outcomes are reached.

Look forward to seeing you on live stream again soon to determine the candidates draw soon!

Regards,
Jann
