Playing Variants Makes You Weaker

I believe you did. No one on lichess can't understand joke.

And yeah, in some cases, variants makes you worse chess player. I play variants and standard but variants don't make me worse because I play them good and it makes my combinatorics better. I play good chess so I will continue playing like that. You should play more standard then variants until you get better and then start playing variants. My opinion. Better standard will make you better variant player. I guess, you will get more then knowing normal chess than variants, they are just for fun. I say again, my opinion.

In a way, yes, for example, the time that you spent studying variant you could spend studying standard chess, perhaps studying the theory of variants clogs your head with unnecessary information. But on the other hand, yes, this is just a new fun activity, in fact, all the time you spent not studying chess makes you weaker in chess)). If you do not progress in chess, you gradually regress in them) Source - my own experience ().

Yes studying standard will help you get better at standard faster but I have been playing three check since march of last year, and 2 months ago i decided to start playing standard and my bullet went from 1800 to 2400 and my blitz went from 1700 to 2100. I improved more at standard than i did in 3 check which is weird

I disagree, variants isn't standard chess. Yes, it can make your standard chess bad if you only focus on variants, but like someone earlier said, it's good to learn something new. I agree with Roy, do try out all the variants here on lichess.

Sometimes you might get confused or mixed up with the rules, but I don't think it makes your standard chess worse unless you forget about it.
