@thunderbolt8538 If you start actively learning both tactics and classical theory for 2 hours DEDICATED STUDYING a day every day you can expect to get to NM in around 5 years.

5 yrs is about normal if you have a local club to play at and people to challenge and support you along the way. Maybe studied 10 hrs a week. My study was not entirely efficient of course and I did much of my study without much guidance. Viewed the game as an exercise to maximize my resources and minimize my opponents resources as much as possible.

Yes it is definitely possible to reach IM / GM with consistent and efficient hard work over time.
The only question is whether it is worth it, since you could also invest those 1000s of hours in other ways.
