In this article article I am going to share all the great things the God (Vishy Anand) has done for Indian Chess.

The cold day of December 11th, 1969, was a very important day in the Indian Chess history. On that day, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, the first Grand Master from India and the "God of Indian Chess" was born. The little cute baby was named as we know him today, Viswanathan Anand. Who knew that this day, is the birthday of the 5 - time Chess World Champion. 14 years later, in 1983, this little boy became a big boy. He became the Sub - Junior champion with a massively dominating score of 9/9. In 1984, he won the Asian Junior Championship in Coimbatore earning an IM (International Master) norm in the process. In 1985, he became the youngest Indian to achieve the IM title at the age of 15 by winning the Asian Junior Championship second time in a row, this time in Hing Kong. Next year, at the age of 16, he became the National Chess Champion. He won that title two more times. He played at the blitz speed. So fast that he earned the nickname of the "Lightning Kid". In 1987, he bacame the first Indian to achieve the title of World Junior Chess Champion. In 1988, at the age of 18, he became the first Indian GM (Grand Master) by winning the Shakti Financial International Chess tournament held in Coimbatore, India. He was awarded Padma Shri in the year 1988 itself. In 2000 he won the Fide World Cup and defended his title for 2 years. Finally, 5 years later, in 2007, Anand became the World Champion and defended his title for the next five years. In 2013, he lost to Magnus Carlsen and lost his World Championship title but he is still reigning in the Indian Chess rankings. He is still India no. 1 and world no. 16 at such an old age of 51 years.

Salute to you Anand sir, we love you, we admire you, you are an inspiration for many and the real "God of Indian Chess". Thank you for all this.
