choice of color in rated games

I agree with cafestream and Dionysus too, choice is essential. Though I tend to find I'm better with black and I clearly need more practice with openings. Plus we all make major screw ups from time to time (case in point: www.iccf.com/game?id=756308 where I screwed up both the opening and lost track of a Rook at move 17).

I like the idea of having a white rating and a black rating.
It would solve the question/problem.

But also it will tell to the players how much they are better with white (or black). And I guess many of us are interested.

Adding a separate rating for black and white colors is not a good idea. Things will get too complicated with all the different ratings and its unnecessary. I like how it is right now.

Just keep it as it is. Or take off the option to pick colors in rated games.
I also think we should keep it as it is. Honestly I don't understand why some persons don't want me to choose white or black. If I want to test a new opening I also want to do it in rated games so I can see if it really works against concentrated players.
I think its because some people don't think its fair that players can choose color.

Theoretically white wins like 45 percent of the time and black wins about 43 percent of the time and 11 percent draw.

So I can understand why some player want to choose white all the time to maximize winning chance because having the first move is a slight advantage. But unless one is at Master level or Grandmaster level picking white or black usually has little effect on win ratio.
Quoted

"According to GM Evgeny Sveshnikov, statistics show that White has no advantage over Black in games between beginners, but "if the players are stronger, White has the lead"

The stronger the two players playing each are, the more important it is to have white to increase winning chances. But the question is, at what level does having white actually matter? I would personally say once a player approaches Master or Grandmaster level. Maybe even expert level it can have some affect.

But based on statistics Expert is top 3 percent of rated FIDE/USCF players, Master is top 1 percent and Grandmaster top 0.1 percent.

So basically 97 percent of "serious FIDE/USCF rated chess players" have really no right to complain about this issue of getting to choose white or black.

And there is a lot of players who just play for fun with no FIDE/USCF rating so the 97 percent increases to 99.9% of the chess players in general should not worry about what color they play.

white and black ratings (or the delta) could be displayed only where necessary. it would not add much complexity if well implemented.

a small impact would be to display the two ratngs in the profile only.
but use the rating of the selected color in the waiting games list/matrix

another different idea would be to replace the random color button with a switch color button that would let you play the next game with the opposite color of your previous game.
