Was taught to say hi and gg before starting the game. In OTB games there is also a shake hands. Amongst my friends the loser is asking for rematch. The winner will either wait to see if the opponents wants rematch after saying gg or that was a hard for me to win, yes lost game might have been a pretty hard fight and good play overall.
What is considered rude is not resigning in a completely lost position unless it's a Blitz or faster time setting.
