live streams

<quote>In spite of some fanciful claims to contrary above, I suspect that over the last few months one would be hard pressed to find a featured stream of mine which was anything less than 90% (possibly even 91%) chess, and that ape is grossly mistaken with his "90% non-chess" comment, unless he means my streams in general and not those specifically intended for lichess.org, in which case, well, OK, then he's probably about right.</quote>

Yes, I was referring to your stream in general (because I see all of them since I'm following you on Twitch), not just the lichess-tagged ones. I'm guessing the times you streamed non-chess on lichess.tv it was just because you forgot to change the title before you started broadcasting. Happens to me too, all the time (not on lichess.tv, just in general).

I should note that I'm 100% pro-Zug. Sorry if it came across as criticism – I watch your stream whether it's chess or hearthstone or anything else. I was just suggesting how to prevent the accidental mis-streams :)

@ZugAddict: Why did you call another user an "ape" right before you asked for reinstatement? The user stated that he or she "FELT like 90% of the time" your streaming content appeared non-chess related. That hardly merits an insult like the one you gave.

@azuaga: Are we all?
I am a lichess newcomer, never watched the feed in question nor have I had an exchange with anyone in this thread. Read through it to kill some time, to be honest :). This is precisely why there may be some value in what I have to say on the matter: @ZugAddict, sorry but, the way you are writing, you seem contemptuous instead of accommodating. I get a veiled irony in your recounting of the facts and what I am hearing is: "You shouldn't make such a fuss, none of this is important or deserves my attention. Also, I am probably smarter than you :)". If it's been like this all along, I can see how @Thibault might have had difficulty getting his message across.

I am offering my impression of how you come across, honestly and for your consideration (and not to make friends with thibault or enemies with you). Be well :)
I feel like now would be a good moment to stop discussing/accusing each other of silly things and ask the admins:

Is there room for a debate? Is your decision set in stone?
If so I don't see the point in continuing this thread.
I get Thibault.
And i get Zugaddict.
They both have valid, reasonable arguments about what happend and if John should be whitelisted again.

It's up to Thibault to reconsider to get Zugaddict back on the whitelist, atleast he knows now what the Lichess community would like.

Now let's now leave this thread and discussion between the two of them, even though i'm also very eager to know what the outcome will be.

Time will tell ladies and gentleman, time will tell.
NoStep - perhaps the forums are different, but I don't think that an "I'm smarter than you" vibe is what I customarily exude on my streams. Much of the time it's closer to "Why are my desktop icons upside down", and/or "Is it safe to eat three day old moldy limburger cheese?".

Yeah, I agree with #37. John is a blast to watch but he barely talks when playing (whereas everyone else who streams can do live commentary), unless he does a puzzle where he does some really awesome and interesting analyses.

I also distinctly remember one time just before he was delisted when he was messing with OBS settings for over 30 minutes (I actually looked at the clock before and after); he was on the home page for the entire time. On top of that, he just wrote something along the lines of 'Feel the bits' in big white text on top... and that took him half an hour to settle on!

Anyway, I can understand Thibault's wish to keep a reasonable quality threshold. We can come for the Zug, but Thibault wants us to also come for the chess. :) Just doing a bit more live commentary and changing the title when doing unrelated things would hugely increase the quality of the stream.

As for reply #8, that's funny because I was sitting in IRC and saw Clarkey and Thibault (whenever he was around) watching Zug religiously as he found all sorts of issues with the site or complained about various things, which were often fixed afterwards. Every time he streamed, too!

Again, I'm definitely pro-Zug but I can understand why he was delisted. It's a certain type of stream which Johncannot really do, and that's fine, his stream is still awesome, just different. I reckon John might well be allowed given the overwhelmingly positive reaction to his stream here, as long as John promises to change the title when appropriate.

On a side note, this topic is getting rather heavy but we must remember the quality moments Zug has given us that lighten the mood a bit. Hey, if it's fun for him, why give it up?

PS: What does 'feel the bits' mean anyway?
It is a sort of complex origin for the bits, but here it goes.

Feel the bits, has evolved to mean. "I'm in the zone" or "Feel the force" Essentially, there was this player (who as it turned out wasn't actually who he said he was) who said "feel the bits" in one of his streams referring to some obscure sort of timing technique used in chess, to make him appear like he actually knew what he was talking about instead of just being a cheater who claimed to be a GM.

Now it just means "feel the force" or "I'm in the zone."

Feel the bits!
Is everyone really that torn up about yellow letters on the homepage? You can still watch Zug when he streams...I don't get all the commotion. If you sign up for a free twitch account you can easily be notified when he comes on, there is no need for lichess to connect you with him.
Rah! Rah! Pro-Zug! Feel the bits! Fight the fire! Cassiopeia! Eric Clapton!

Kudos to whoever gets the reference.
