Newcomers shouldn't be allowed straight into major tourneys

I disagree, every new user should be able to experience all the features lichess has to offer, that's what the website is all about.

People want to cheat in a tournament? Let them, that way they'll be caught cheating sooner.
I reckon it would unfairly punish new users. Let's say one of your fans is a first timer and wants to join a tournament that you're also in, in the hopes of playing you. I certainly wouldn't want to punish them.

And indeed, it's often innocuous things like that that lead to people with few games joining. I know for a fact that dozens of chessbrah fans have joined that way. Many other people are drawn to lichess due to the tournament system for instance, and want to try them out first after e.g. having played a few games anonymously.

On the whole, I think such a ban would overwhelmingly affect innocent, well-meaning players. For every new player in a tournament that you think is cheating, there's probably 20 others who registered the same day just to check out a tournament.

PS: there is a very large, red banner saying that reports go to the report form, not the forum. Publicly shaming the player is not appreciated or good sportsmanship.
Well, Kingcrusher, you were right about that player being an engine user.... :)
Kingscrusher should play me, he'll get the points back in no time!

I love your videos, btw! ^^
Cheating is a possibility for both tournaments and regular games. It may also come from existing users as well as newcomers. I believe the suggestion in #1 would only allow a cheater to play 30 bullet games and do what he/she is gonna do anyway. Lets face it, cheaters are persistent. I think what can be done is already being done via codes that search for cheating signs. I understand that we all get frustrated at these incidents, but with the increasing anger against a few, we run the risk of ruining the experience for all of us and many to come. Just think how many false alarms have been resolved and how would we feel about being frisked at every turn.
Tough issue. I say have a requirement to play in tourneys. But not 30 games. Just have a requirement of 5 games is good enough.
