Resign or Checkmate?

Here's an example from the other day - nothing against my opponent, it was more strange than annoying, but I'd say he should have resigned about move 40 instead of struggle on a couple of moves (and yes, I did miss mate in 1)

Or they are playing on in the hope that the person they are play gets too excited about the impending win that they make a blunder and lose the initiative, another "devil's advocate" view. Personally I would resign and show them the respect that they have played well, if that has been the case through the game.
Hi tsm-chess, I am one of those who gets very excited when playing chess especially when I am in a winning position. Do you think I will play better if I keep cool? Is it possible some people will play better when get excited? Your opinion will be very much appreciated. Thank You.
Not so much a question of being excited or not but more that you will play better if you are thinking about what is the best next move. Using brain power on 'oh I'm winning! I'll be home in time for tea! My rating will increase 2 points!' just removes it from the task at hand.

Of course this advice is easier to give than to follow...
Hi Keru, thank you for your prompt reply. I will try to find the next best move and remove tea and rating points from my mind. bye
Chtan, Everyone is different - Adrenalin is a strange natural drug, it helps some people and can put others into panic mode and a death spiral in the chess world. My Dad aways said to me think before you move, then check again before you move and then make your mistake LOL. I did not win a game against him from the age of 5 thru to the age of 14. I won at 14 years old and he said I've taught you all I can - and he never played me again, from then on it was chess clubs and tournaments - and studying Fischer, Korchnoi, Karpov and a lovely lady called Nancy Elder at a Scottish Chess Club. (PS Tal, Alakine and Capablanca are also amazing).
#17 that is ridiculously similar to my own experience!

Were you in Dundee, tsm?
tsm-chess, I know about Adrenalin but it did not occur to me that I am experiencing it when I play chess with AI. OMG. Yes, I think I play better chess when I am excited but not badminton a physical sport in my experience. Umpteen years ago I remembered when I played chess with my friends I kept telling myself to keep calm and I was successful but I lost most of the games. That is also the reason why I try not to play too much because I might die of a heart attack. Thank You very much for hinting that Adrenalin is affecting me to the forefront of my knowledge. You are absolutely correct. bye
